Early Othering, Racism and Satori in 1970s America

I had alopecia areata when I was 12. At the time, our family was living in Del City, Oklahoma. It was the late 1970s. My father was stationed at Tinker Air Force Base but we lived off-base, in the Del Rancho neighborhood. …

Zombies Seeking Lifelines Beyond Apocalypse

It can be very easy to let life’s flow carry you across the torrents cascading through the river of your life. To “go along to get along”. You can get in a groove, working, playing, raising kids. …

What is holding you back?

What is holding you back? What do you do as a positive habit that you continue, day after day, week after week? What do you want to do that could change your life? Think about it. And then just do it. We make that statement harder than it seems when…

The Seeker

The path is shimmering and variable, wending its way zigging and zagging multidimensionally. It shines sometimes and other times it is a faint glimmer of possibility as it forks and twists through human consciousness and cultural expression. It pops up in this religion as a shining point of light, in…

The Great Replacement Theory: There’s nothing new under the sun

I’ve been teaching about the Great Replacement Theory all of my teaching career. It wasn’t called that back then, but, in essence, that is what I and others have been doing since at least the early 1990s. When I first started teaching introductory classes in Geography, almost 30 years ago…

NaPoWriMo 5/30 A Chosen State of Mind

Once upon a time I lost my mind and found myself living a life I didn’t choose. That is to say, that at that time, I was choosing to cruise, choiceless, letting life live me, going with the flow, rather than living what I know. How many of us do…

NaPoWriMo 4/30 Funkalicious Phonedom

The idea that we’ve all got 15 minutes of fame coming is to blame for the social media games we find ourselves playing. We stay on notify, vibrating phones thrumming, chuckling, whispering quiet seductions in our pockets and purses, tempting, spitting verses designed for our minds specifically, programmed precisely. Instagram…

NaPoWriMo 3/30 Eternity Undefined

An ebony expanse Pin-pricked by iridescent Ivory beacons Blinking Shining Extending endlessly extant Forever defined as the Unimaginable Incomprehensible continuation Moments stretched unto the Infinite Marking time Chopping wood Carrying water Again and again only the Now Present Visceral and immediate Never-ending sameness Differentiated experientially by Experience multidimensionally-layered Stacked cords of time and space

NaPoWriMo 1/30 Change Comes Despite Our Best Efforts To Stay The Same

A world on the cusp of fundamental transformation and most people have abandoned their worldly stations, given up caring about things beyond their dreams, given up sharing about goals beyond their individuated souls. I mean, we still go to work, play adult games in the dark, relax in the parks and try to maintain the facade of normalcy, at least. But it’s a beast to pretend, wending our way through the moments of our days wondering when the end might come, when our sins might trend, our entire lives on blast like Will and Jada’s past.
